Insulated Tote

After starting the day with Body Combat and Bagel Nation, I ventured downtown to "Oops" to pick up an insulated lunch tote that I saw earlier in the week but didn't buy and then regretted blah blah blah.  It's so busy downtown y'all!   Monday there were racks upon racks of these bags and this morning- one left. Uno!  You bet I snatched it up, remarking multiple times to the sales girl "Wow, I can't believe they're all gone".  But, at $10 a pop, I guess I can believe it.  It's funny because a couple of months ago I couldn't go shopping anywhere without seeing displays of these hanging around and now I can't seem to find.
Summer afternoons are meant for strolls to the pool and the thing is, I don't want to lug our jumbo cooler on wheels with just a couple of beers inside.  So, to make a long story short, I wanted an insulated tote bag and I got me one!
Happy Weekend!

The Weekend

Wow, I'm exhausted.
Friday night I ventured downtown for a fun Bachelorette night out for Cydney.  And it really was so much fun!  I made the commitment to wake up early for a Body Combat class (my absolute favorite) on Saturday, but let me tell y'all, my head was pounding.

Oh, Oh!  Check out my shorts!
After Combat I beat the crowds at Publix, picked up subs and teddy grahams (only the essentials) and we hit the beach.  We were out there for a fun 7 hours and I forgot to put sunscreen on the top of my feet.  Owwww.  These guys walked past us multiple times playing "Wanna Be A Baller".  Priceless.

I think by this picture I'm actually just collapsing on K's shoulder.
Sunday we saw "The 5 Year Engagement" (cute, but long) and ended the evening with a cocktail at the Pavillion Bar.
I repeat: Wow, I'm exhausted.

The Weekend

Friday night we showered Cyd with about as much lingerie as we could find.  I wanted all of it for my own stash!
Saturday night K and I had a date!  We have become accustomed to parking in garages over the past year.  Charleston is just way too crowded to circle around anymore!  But there are some perks to the crowds, like this photo op on the roof.  That's K's church (St. Matthews) in the background.

Before dinner we went to the Belmont for a drink, and it is "a fine place to drink".  We love the dim ambiance and the black and white movie projections.  I also loved these cloth cocktail napkins!
Sunday was truly a dreary day, with no photos to show for it.  We did have a couple's trip to the gym, which I love.  Working out with my guy is an instant motivator!  Dinner at home after a funeral visitation for an amazing man, and the weekend was done.

Pattern Mixing

The only photo I have from this past weekend is from Voodoo, Sunday evening, stopping by to see my friend Britt while waiting for our to-go order at Mellow.  I was not feeling well on Saturday so I was glad to be getting out of the house for a blackberry mojito.
I love patterns and mixing things that shouldn't go together, but do.  Above, I  threw on this old little jacket from Target with a fluer de lis pattern over my striped/floral dress and I think it adds the right amount of energy to the ensemble.
Below I have an outfit suitable for a work meeting yesterday.  I'm no longer in the corporate world and it's nice to be a bit more expressive in my outfits.
Jewelry can be a big help when mixing patterns.  It can truly tie the whole thing together, as with this vintage brooch I found at an estate sale.  I've tried a lot of patterns together and can't really figure out a formula for what works.  It's just trial and error.  Happy mixing!

Easy Easter Treat

While Easter has come and gone, I thought I would share my super simple bird's nest cookies that were (almost) too cute to eat...
I used this cookie recipe.  These cookies are a classic, and delicious on their own, but for the festive touch I simply added Reese's eggs and some cute little pom pom chicks.  Cute!
Also, I made a strawberry shortcake trifle by layering store-bought angel food cake, sliced strawberries, and coolwhip.  This is another easy favorite!

Five Things

The only thing missing from this picture is a Corona Light.
Light alfredo and shells casserole.
I almost resisted these Robin's Eggs.
 A sweet Easter gift...
 For an even sweeter girl!

HAPPY EASTER TO YOU!

salmon croquettes and veggie mac

I had to pick up this Kraft veggie mac at the Dollar Tree last week... I'm guessing it wasn't selling well to be there but I must say it was great!  Well, I'm a fan of Kraft from the get-go and I don't buy it often, if at all, because it's too easy to eat too much.  So this was a special treat and I loved the hidden nutrition.  I made salmon croquettes (a childhood favorite) and lima beans.  Nothing about this meal was too special, but it's my definition of comfort food and I enjoyed it so much.

The Weekend

What can go wrong when you start the weekend with a sangria swirl margarita?

We had way too much fried seafood at Bowen's. I'll be ready to go again in oh, another year.

We had a fun date night Saturday with Kristina and her husband, Brian.
Rounded out the weekend with The Hunger Games last night, pretty good.
How was your weekend?

DIY Scalloped Shorts

I think many Southern girls probably covet J Crew anything and everything.  I readily admit that my budget does not allow me their clothes, and it's no matter.  When I saw these babies, I squealed.
I had to have them, but for $118.00. Ha!
Good thing I'm a crafty one, huh?

Here's what you need:
Fabric Scissors
Fray Check
Shorts (or pants) to cut
Paper
Pen
Tape
Round shaped object to trace (I used a bottle of spray Pam)

What you do:
I started with some goodwill granny pants, in a pretty pink shade.
I put them on, taped a length I liked and cut the legs off.

I then traced half circles using the Pam bottle, one after another to make a stencil on my paper.  I taped this to the bottom of my shorts and started to cut out the scallops:

After cutting the scallops I traced the edge with Fray Check to prevent fraying (you can see that these were already starting to fray).  The Fray Check takes some time to dry...

Here's my final product, still with somewhat damp edges.
I'm quite happy with myself over these.

J Crew: $118.00
Laura: $8.00

Who needs take out?

General Tso's chicken over brown rice. Yes.

We're off on a camping trip this weekend and I'm packing away.  I really love packing for trips, my OCD gets to come out and play!

Goin' Green

My friends and I don't need any excuse to spend a Saturday at Folly for an impromptu pup crawl, but it's always nice when they close down the street for St. Patty's!  I like to get a little festive, and Folly is my home! Fun fact: I worked at the pier for 5 years during highschool and college?
Don't forget to wear your green...even if it's just a touch of body art ;)

It's Glow Time!

I'm feeling the spring fever today!  Bring on the long days at the beach and on the boat.  And most of all, bring on the glow of summer skin.

Weekend

We started the weekend with cocktails under the full moon.  I had some quality girl time with my JIHS ladies.  A little Saturday stop by Bin 152, some home-made eggs benedict, and of course we showered our little dog with as much love as we could squeeze in. That's the recipe for weekend success.

Alfie was allowed inside :)

Also, not pictured: Happy Birthday to my sweet Dad!!
