My Charleston Bucket List

Thanks to Joan's blog, I read the recent cover story of Charleston Magazine,
The Charleston Bucket List: Things Every Local Must Experience Whether your bloodline dates back generations or you just moved to town, check out and check off these Holy City must-dos.

This inspired me to create my own list. This is the perspective of a young Charleston couple without children, but I do feel some of my list is family friendly.  These are some of our favorite things to do!
1. Picnic at White Point Gardens:
Make your own or grab some lunch from a deli (Caviar and Bananas has great to-go food!) and head down to White Point Gardens at the Battery.  Bring a blanket and watch the world go by or walk off your lunch while checking out the gorgeous architecture all around you!  (This is Alfie's favorite :)
2. Pearlz Happy Hour:
Hands down, this is the most budget friendly (and fun) Happy Hour in town.  Get there early because it fills up fast!
3. Visit Fort Moultrie on Sullivans:
Explore Sullivan's Island in general, and head to IOP while you're over there!  Grab some ice cream at Ben and Jerry's and take a stroll.
4. Catch some live local music:
Our favorite local bands are Old You and Dangermuffin. You can search all live music in the City Paper.
5. Thrift shopping in Avondale and then Shuffleboard at Gene's:
Avondale in West Ashley offers three thrift shops worth visiting: Reinvented, Consigning Women, and "The Thrift Store".  Next, treat yourself to a beer...Gene's is an institution, at least in my family.  Definitely a dive bar, this is one of the only places I know where you can play shuffleboard in Chas.
6. Romantic dinner at Fulton Five:
Honestly, you can't really go wrong when choosing a restaurant downtown, but this is our favorite.
7. Take a class at Charleston Cooks!
Browse the store when the class is through, lots of fun goodies.
8. Crabbing at Brittle Bank park:
There are so many beautiful public docks in Charleston to enjoy if you don't have one of your own, and this is a central suggestion.  If it's the season, Grab some lines, weights, and chicken necks and see what you can catch!
9. Rock Climbing Wall at JICP:
We love James Island County park and visit often.  The Rock Wall is great for all levels of climbers!
10. Check local papers for special/seasonal events!  It's no secret that Charleston is full of fun: Second Sundays, Spoleto, Food and Wine, Riverdogs games...honestly, it's endless.

Tell me! Tell me!  What's on your Charleston Bucket List???
