Easter Plans

Hey hey, how was the weekend?
Ours was super laid back and entirely un-postworthy.
On Friday night we skipped cooking and grabbed Chinese takeout.
We had my parents over for dinner on Saturday night and then I woke up with a scratchy throat yesterday.
I spent the most gorgeous Sunday reading on the couch.

Hopefully next Sunday I will be feeling much better, because it's Easter!

What do you have planned?

We are going to attend the 11:00 am Easter Service at St. Stephen's,
--
I'm not sure what I'm wearing yet...
What do y'all think of this dress?  I love the halter style, though I'm hesitant of bare shoulders at church.  I found it online in the Nordstrom Sale section.
I would definitely pair it with more Spring-ish shoes.
--
I'm not sure what our plans are after church, but I'm sure that one of our meals will involve this dessert.
Recipe for my No Bake Chocolate Eclair with Fudge Icing posted here.

Hooray Hooray Spring has Sprung!

Tasty Tuesday

What's for dinner?

Here is what's on our table this week!

Notes:

Monday-  I use the McCormick recipe and it's simple and delicious.  One change is that I only use 1/2 cup of sour cream.  It's comfort food that doesn't feel quite so heavy.

Tuesday- My breakfast tacos are turkey sausage, egg, and cheese topped with black bean salsa.  Initial recipe can be found here.

Wednesday- K loves chicken with rice so I usually make this at least every other week.  It's an inexpensive meal that hits the spot.  My favorite part of this dinner is the gravy I make from the drippings.

Thursday- Yum!

Friday- Garlic burger bun, topped with fresh basil and mozz. Oldie but goodie recipe here.

Saturday and Sunday nights are a toss up...

Anything tasty happening with you this week?

Weekend Update

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.
Ours was gone too quick.
Friday night we kept it easy with a date night at our fave neighborhood spot, Mondos Delite.
It was the perfect weather for a glass of wine on their twinkling patio.
We were not alone in our decision and ran into several other JI couples with same idea.
This picture doesn't really capture the essence of the night, but here ya go:

I worked Saturday and then questioned why I signed us up to host supper club that night.  I managed to make it home and slam it out, cleaning and cooking like a crazy woman.
Truth:
We had fried catfish nuggets, red rice, and pioneer woman's baked corn.
Look at these cuties:
Sunday we were lazy bums: reading, eating, watching tv.  Did anyone catch the Intervention premiere last night?  K refuses to watch with me but I can't help myself.

Then I blinked and it's Monday.
Did you have a good one?

Hey Friday!

After a whirlwind of a weekend, I feel like I'm finally feeling caught up and here it is Friday again.  Not complaining!
We had a fabulous time at my sister in law's wedding this past Sunday out at the Boone Hall Cotton Dock.
The weather was perfect, the day was perfect!
 Bridesmaids!
The wedding favors were these cute sweetgrass "rings".  They are just ornamental little circles but I've decided to use them as bangles.
--
In other news, I've been reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn and I am deeming her the poor man's Chuck Palahniuk.  What ya say?
--
Saturday night we are having our little Supper Club group (3 couples) over for a Nielson Fish Fry!
My grandfather's specialty was a fish fry, see a menu of his below:

--
Last, I wanted to mention a fashion accessory that has become one of my favorites, the dress cincher, or "fashion clip".  I found this years ago at an antique shop with all it's retro instruction glory.
Basically, you use it to make easy alterations to clothing that is too loose, or doesn't fit just right.    Considering I am a curvy girl, some of the more billowy styles that are currently trending don't necessarily do anything for me  If I use this clip, it can give me just the right amount of shape while letting me embrace the flowy look.

I hope y'all have a fantastic weekend!
xoxo

St. Patty's Past

For the past three years, we have spent St. Patrick's Day down on Folly Beach, taking Irish car bombs and joining in the general debauchery that is a Folly Pub Crawl.
This year, both K and I are in a family wedding this weekend so we will forgo this tradition.
It's a blessing in disguise as I have ultimately realized that day drinking can sometimes be a recipe for disaster.
But, here are some flashback moments of the past few years.

2012, My first Irish Car Bomb.
Which led to this...

Circa 1989?
My grandparents were HUGE into St. Patrick's Day and always participated in the parade downtown then spent the day at Jimmy Dengate's.
I love this shot of them decked out in the shamrock-mobile.

Switching gears because...
This weekend my sister in law is getting married,
and I'm so excited to stand by her side.
Here comes the bride!!

Weekend Report

Good Monday Morning out there!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend!
--
On Friday night we decided to check out Roadside Seafood on Folly Road.
It was pretty good!
K had a bowl of the she crab soup which was the definite star of the meal.  I opted for the Philly Cheesesteak with "bam" sauce which was nice and juicy.  The restaurant was very laid back and welcoming.

--
On Saturday my mom and I hit the mall to try and find a dress for a casual rehearsal dinner this weekend over at Hobcaw Yacht Club.  My vision is a flowy maxi dress.  I tried on this one, by Giani Bini, at Dillards but the color just wasn't doing anything for me.  I couldn't find anything I really love so I suppose I'll just have to shop my own closet.

--
On Sunday I met up with my ladies at Studio Barre for a class taught by our friend Lauren.
Lauren is getting certified and needed to practice teaching.
It was so fun feeling like a teachers pet and seeing my girl in charge!
Heads up! You can try a free class at Studio Barre on James Island.
--
We finished up the weekend watching Horrible Bosses 2, which was cute and had several really funny moments.  I recommend renting it!

That's a wrap!
What are you up to?

Thoughts on Thursday

Yesterday was gorgeous!
I went for an outside run on the West Ashley Greenway.
This path runs the entire length of Savannah Hwy.  I prefer to run the unpaved section closer to the Limehouse bridge, as it has more of a nature trail feel.
On that same note, I have finally, after 3 months of letting it all go, gotten back on track with food and fitness.  Something just clicked, and I'm so happy to be in my groove again.
It's not about dieting for me, it's about smarter choices.
Instead of peanut m&m's, I'll opt for some of these:
--
In other news, Rumor has it that Maybank Hwy has some exciting updates in store.

Months of construction have revealed the first phase of "Maybank Gathering Place", a huuuge apartment complex spanning 22 acres with it's own parking garage.  To me, this is not so much exciting as frustrating for an already over crowded island, but with growth comes opportunity so...

I heard through the grapevine that the former Maybank Piggly Wiggly is set to be rebuilt as a Specialty Store concept by Harris Teeter.  It will be similar to Whole Foods, with a second floor Wine Bar and will be called 201 Central.

And I'm sure y'all have heard about Coleman Public House coming to the island as Maybank Public House.  I love this idea!  It is set to open in the former Locklear's/Mustard Seed.
The only downfall here is the already ridiculous parking situation going on in the same shopping ctr (that houses our beloved How Art Thou and Zia).

--
Also for Charlestonians, Food and Wine Fest is this weekend.  Tomorrow night is a cool Pecha Kucha event centered around the culinary scene down at Charleston Music Hall.  The premise of PK is that a series of presenters each have 3 or so minutes to introduce their ideas to the crowd.  It's a gathering of creatives and this event costs $40 which includes food and drink.
--
I am thrilled to be free as a bird this weekend.
I predict good food, a couple workouts, and a Sunday drive through some neighborhoods that have piqued our interest lately.

See y'all next week!
